Activity of antioxidative enzymes in watercress and Chinese cabbage plants grown under hydroponic system with brackish water Horticultura Brasileira
Lira,Raquele M; Silva,Ênio FF; Willadino,Lilia; Oliveira Filho,Ronaldo A; Andrade,Gilvany R.
ABSTRACT Underground water reserves in Semiarid Region present high salinity levels; however, scarcity of resource compels farmers to use this water for conventional agriculture. Biomass production and activity of the antioxidative defense system of Chinese cabbage and watercress were evaluated in plants grown under hydroponic NFT system with brackish water. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replications and five water salinity levels (1.95; 3.37; 4.48; 6.82 and 7.51 dS m-1), obtained by an increasing addition of NaCl into the local water supply and nutrient salts for preparation of nutrient solution. Both watercress and Chinese cabbage plants decreased in fresh and dry shoot biomass, in relation to increase of salinity in...

Assessment of Genetic Fidelity of in vitro Raised Plants in Swertia chirayita through ISSR, RAPD analysis and Peroxidase Profiling during Organogenesis BABT
Sharma,Vikas; Belwal,Nidhi; Kamal,Barkha; Dobriyal,Anoop Kumar; Jadon,Vikash Singh.
ABSTRACT An efficient in vitro regeneration protocol for medicinally important herb Swertia chirayita was developed and the genetic fidelity was assessed using RAPD and ISSR markers. The best shoot regeneration was observed on MS basal supplemented with 1.0 mg/L Benzyl amino purine (BAP) in combination with Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) (0.5 mg/L) that resulted in the increase by multiplication rate (7.65) with an average of 33.33 numbers of shoots and average shoot length of 2.70 cm. It was further enhanced by the addition of adenine sulfate (0.007%) that resulted in an average of 42 shoots per clum with 4.13 cm of average shoot length and the increase in multiplication fold to 9.75 that further resulted in the reduced use of other cytokinins and auxins. The...

Bioactivity of Scytonema hofmanni (Cyanobacteria) in Lilium alexandrae in vitro propagation Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Zaccaro,María Cristina; Kato,Adriana; Zulpa,Gloria; Storni,Mónica Magdalena; Steyerthal,Noemí; Lobasso,Karina; Stella,Ana María.
Cyanobacteria produces bioactive compounds including plant growth regulators. Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), a toxic substance, is a synthetic plant regulator used in micropropagation. The aim of this work was to evaluate morphogenetic and antioxidant effects produced by intra and extracellular substances from Scytonema hofmanni (Cyanobacteria) during the multiplication in vitro of Lilium alexandrae and to compare them to those produced by NAA. Intra and extracellular cyanobacterial products increased a) bulblets production reaching 83% and 78% of NAA effect, respectively; b) the bulblet diameter compared to NAA; and c) the bulblet survival due to the promotion of antioxidant activity measured as catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and glutathione reductase...

Effect of Thymol on Soybean Seeds Germination: Physiological and Biochemical Analysis BABT
Lima,Eduarda Lee Ferreira; Macedo,Willian Rodrigues; Silva,Geraldo Humberto.
Abstract Higher levels of reactive species of oxygen are harmful to plant tissues. This study evaluated the action of different doses of thymol on soybean seed germination, biometric analysis and enzymatic parameters; both involved in germination process. High doses of thymol affected the plantlet growth, but not hampered the germination.

Enzymatic antioxidant responses to biostimulants in maize and soybean subjected to drought Scientia Agricola
Vasconcelos,Ana Carolina Feitosa de; Zhang,Xunzhong; Ervin,Erik H.; Kiehl,Jorge de Castro.
Water stress is one of the most important environmental factors inducing physiological changes in plants, such as decrease in the water potential of the cells, the stomatal closure; and the development of oxidative processes mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) are efficient scavengers of ROS. The aim of this research was to examine how the application of biostimulant based on humic substances and aminoacids may affect activity levels of SOD, CAT, and APX of maize and soybean plants under well-watered or drought stress conditions. Pots (4.5 L) were filled with a Typic Hapludult soil where the biostimulants doses were applied. It was taken leaf samples in...

Plant responses to stresses: role of ascorbate peroxidase in the antioxidant protection Genet. Mol. Biol.
Caverzan,Andréia; Passaia,Gisele; Rosa,Silvia Barcellos; Ribeiro,Carolina Werner; Lazzarotto,Fernanda; Margis-Pinheiro,Márcia.
When plants are exposed to stressful environmental conditions, the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) increases and can cause significant damage to the cells. Antioxidant defenses, which can detoxify ROS, are present in plants. A major hydrogen peroxide detoxifying system in plant cells is the ascorbate-glutathione cycle, in which, ascorbate peroxidase (APX) enzymes play a key role catalyzing the conversion of H2O2 into H2O, using ascorbate as a specific electron donor. Different APX isoforms are present in distinct subcellular compartments, such as chloroplasts, mitochondria, peroxisome, and cytosol. The expression of APX genes is regulated in response to biotic and abiotic stresses as well as during plant development. The APX responses are...

低温と光がアズキ実生の抗酸化酵素活性に与える影響 OAK
何, 寧; 太野, 友和; 小嶋, 道之; He, Ning; Futono, Tomokazu; Kojima, Michiyuki.
Seedlings of 2 varieties of Adzuki beans – the Buchisyouryukei-1 variety, which is weak under low temperatures in the budding stage, and the Akanedainagon variety, which is resistant to low temperatures in the budding stage – were investigated to clarify whether differences in the antioxidative enzyme activity are associated with exposure to low temperatures (15ºC). APX and CAT activity rose when greenish Akanedainagon seedlings were exposed to low temperatures,...
